As Nils brought us his last guitar and visited our shop, a beautiful 2010 Fritz Ober guitar caught his attention. It had a beautiful three-piece back with flamed maple and a snakewood middle part. With this picture in mind, Nils built the instrument we present today, using the same wood combination. The result is phenomenal, and what an eyecatcher! Nils remained faithful to his concept, and this traditional guitar features an elevated fingerboard. One fascinating detail is the rosette displaying by transparency the sublime colour of a 24-carat gold leaf. He began his path in instrument making more than a decade ago with a formal apprenticeship, followed by studies in Markneukirchen, one of Europe’s historic centres of instrument making. Further internships and collaborations with established makers broadened his perspective across both guitar and violin making. Before opening his own workshop in Leipzig in 2019, he worked for several years in a violin making studio, refining his precision in craftsmanship and developing a heightened sensitivity for acoustic detail. His instruments reflect influences from both German and French traditions, with an emphasis on structural clarity and tonal refinement.

About the guitar

This 2026 Nils Schebesta is a cedar double top concert guitar with Indian rosewood back and sides, a fully French polished finish, and Alessi tuners. With a weight of only 1,285 grams and an air body frequency around E to F, it has a remarkably light and resonant construction, giving the sound a deep foundation while preserving clarity and control. Its response is immediate and carefully balanced, with the tones emerging quickly and cleanly under the hand. The first string has an effortless singing quality, allowing the player to shape the line with ease, while the deeper resonance gives the instrument warmth, depth, and presence. The result is a modern double top guitar with impressive power, clear articulation, and a refined sense of tonal control.
