He used at least three successive brands; he won awards in 1839 and 1844 during the Great National Exhibitions. His working life can be summed up as follows: Before 1818 he worked for Pons. In about 1819 he was in rue Montmartre, where he took over the workshop from his colleague Martin. In about 1823 he was in rue Neuve St-Eustache. In about 1823 he was in Place des Victoires, where he remained until 15th April 1829; then he moved to rue de Richelieu. In about 1832 he was in rue de Gramont. In about 1834 he was in rue de Louvois. In about 1843 he was still in rue de Louvois; also managing a shop in Ebury Street (London), starting the company “Lacôte & Cie”. In about 1850 he was in rue des Martyrs where he worked untill 1868 at least. This guitar has mahogany back and sides. Hermann Hauser ® III provided his instruments with his own numbering and signature. Andres Segovia attested guitars of Hermann Hauser ® III indescribably beautiful sounds, and Pepe Romero simply calls his Hauser ® guitar the classical guitar with the purest sound. The secret of the sound of a Hauser ® guitar is to be found not only in technical processing. Just like his ancestors, Hermann Hauser ® III cultivates the personal and amicable relations to his guitarists. Depending on the artists´ wishes, he tunes his guitars to specific sound frequencies. Before constructing neck profiles and finger boards, and before determining the length of the strings, he starts with a deep analysis of the artist’s needs and demands. Hermann Hauser ® III spends a lot of time on studying historical instruments, especially those of his ancestors. From this, both supreme works – the restoration of historic guitars and new development of special limited editions – emerge. For his work, Hermann Hauser ® III received highest awards from professional organizations and highest acknowledgement of the international guitar community. In order to build guitars at a level of highest perfection, he counts on: reliable instinct, especially for the guitarist’s way of playing, a feeling for forms, to give musical aesthetics to the instruments, handcraft talent, to correctly process the living resource wood, musicality, to recognize the sonority of the instruments, and, above all: love for the profession. The waiting period for a new instrument is about five years, because involving plenty of time is the only way for an artistic guitar to arise. Hermann Hauser ® III provided his instruments with his own numbering and signature. Andres Segovia attested guitars of Hermann Hauser ® III indescribably beautiful sounds, and Pepe Romero simply calls his Hause r® guitar the classical guitar with the purest sound. In 1893 he stopped to work as a luthier for five years because of the military service he has to absolve. During that period he was also in Cuba to fight in the Spanish-American war. In 1898 he left the army and opened his own workshop in ‘Calle Nicolas Salmerón’. This almost-200-years-old guitar was restored by the accomplished German luthier Bernhard Kresse in 1998 and is since then in perfect playing condition.

The guitar does not wear a label but the rectangular shape of the original label is still noticeable on the wood. This instrument has a beautiful, gracile and yet quite present voice. Lovers of romantic repertoire will enjoy this instrument very much, since it is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also reflects the authentic sound of a time long gone and can be played excellently.

Luthier:

Anonymous

Construction year:

ca. 1820-30

Top:

Spruce

Back and sides:

Maple

Scale:

635 mm

Nut:

45 mm

Weight:

1112 grams

Air resonance frequency:

E

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0765/4011/7325/files/a-franzosischeanonym-1820-30-23052019-1.png?v=1758649884
bernard-enzensperger-1834
Bernard Enzensperger - ca. 1834

This beautiful guitar built in Vienna around 1834 by Bernard Enzensperger is a fantastic instrument. He won the first price at the Chicago World Fair in 1893. Enrique Garcia is seen as the founder of the Barcelona school of guitar making as he strongly influenced many other guitar makers from Barcelona as Francisco Simplicio, Enrique Sanfeliù, Ignacio Fleta and many more. He was the most important and thought after guitar maker of the beginning of the 20th century and his guitars were played by the most recognised guitarists such as Domingo Prat and Francisco Tarrega.

This fantastic full-size concert guitar was built in 1914 and wears the number 155. It has an astonishing set of Brazilian rosewood (Pre-CITES convention), that is assembled in unsymmetrically, which gives this guitar an absolutely unique look. This wood has fantastic light reflections and it is one of the most beautiful that we have seen on an E. Garcia. For a one hundred years old guitar, the condition is very impressive: back and sides are free of cracks.
