Adam I. Voigt, is considered the founding father and was admitted in 1699 to the former violin makers guild in Neukirchen. For more than 300 years not only stringed and fretted instruments, but also bows, strings, wood and brass instruments were manufactured in the family. While the construction of bowed instruments dominated until about 1800, this changed from 1850 with the "in vouge instruments" guitar and zither. The son Marc-Julian Voigt represents in consecutive order the 10th Generation in the family dynasty as instrument maker. This classical guitar Torres style was built in 2004 and has a spruce top. He experimented a lot and developed a new order of top bracing, consisting of four struts arranged in a fan-like manner from the soundhole and supported by three reinforcing struts. From the 1980’s onwards, he worked together with his son. This guitar was built by Paulino Bernabé Jr. and it’s in mint condition. He studied classical guitar in the mid 90's under Richard Wright (now head of guitar at the Yehudi Menuhin school of music). He learnt much about tone production from his studies and set out to find a good guitar with a traditional "old world sound". Failing to find the desirable instrument, Richard enthusiastically decided, as he had worked with wood for many years as a tree surgeon, to try to build his own guitar. Richard built a handful of guitars, and with much encouragement from players, left his job and enrolled in a full time guitar making course at the London Guildhall University in 2001. After completing the course, Richard set up a workshop in Ascot, Berkshire, where he builds around twelve guitars a year. Richard builds using very little machinery, concentrating on using traditional hand tools and glues, as he feels it is important to be in touch with the materials while maintaining control over his work. Richard has also received much guidance and advice from professional players and other makers over the years, also study many master guitars, and this has helped him evolve as a maker and produce well balanced guitars with a low body resonance and fine projection. Richard continues to create guitars with the same passion and enthusiasm as that very first build. He has been working as a full time guitar builder since 2006 and focused on double tops since 2007. Korelin's double top model is a result of a long period of experiments and collaboration with such luthiers as Gernot Wagner and Gregory Byers. Korelin is more focused on the quality of sound than on the volume. He builds limited number of 10 guitars a year and he has a one year waiting list. It combines the tones of flamenco with those of jazz and classical, creating a seamless fusion of East and West. Based on a unique acoustic basis the pickup delivers great possibilities for orchestral and spheric sounds. The specially shaped cutaway is ideal for true altitude flights on the instrument. An excellent companion for hikers between periods and continents. "
Zaza Miminoshvili, The Shin

Luthier:

Daniel Stark

Construction year:

2012

Top:

Spruce

Back and sides:

Indian Rosewood

Scale:

650 mm

Nut:

52 mm

Miguel Malo Martinez was born in Madrid in 1943. Already at the age of 13, he started working in the workshop of Augustín Andrés. In 1910, when he was 31, he worked for José Ramirez I. After this intensive and instructive time he was possibly coming to Paris as the first representative of the Spanish guitar in 1914 and revolutionized guitar-making in France. At this time, the French way of construction with its romantic guitars had become unpopular because of the immense popularity of the piano. In 1938, Julián Gómez Ramírez got to know Robert Bouchet (1898-1986) who bought a guitar from Ramírez. This was the beginning of a friendship and finally, J.G. Ramírez taught Robert Bouchet constructing guitars. Later, Robert Bouchet passed on his knowledge to Christian Aubin, who then, in the 1950s taught Daniel Friederich the art of lutherie.
