He eventually established his workshop in Arezzo, Italy, where he has developed a distinctive approach to contemporary concert guitar construction. His instruments are widely appreciated by professional guitarists for their remarkable projection, responsiveness, and refined tonal qualities. Mazza's work is deeply influenced by the Australian lattice tradition, combining highly responsive lattice-braced soundboards with exceptionally rigid laminated backs and sides to achieve impressive acoustic efficiency. Alongside his lattice guitars, he also produces a Nomex double-top model designed to offer even greater projection and immediacy. His craftsmanship is distinguished by meticulous attention to detail and an unmistakable visual identity, particularly his elegant rosettes inspired by the architectural arches of the famous Palazzo Ducale in Venice. Through his combination of technical innovation, artistic refinement, and a profound understanding of the guitarist's needs, Mazza has established himself as a respected figure in modern classical guitar making.

About the guitar

Built in 2025 as Fernando Mazza's 20th Anniversary model, this exceptional concert guitar represents a refined expression of his contemporary approach to instrument making. Featuring a cedar soundboard with lattice bracing and Indian rosewood back and sides, the instrument combines the acoustic power associated with modern Australian construction principles with a remarkably musical and expressive tonal character. Its elegant craftsmanship is complemented by a comfortable armrest and a soundport with a removable cover, allowing the player to adjust the amount of sound reaching their ears. With a 650 mm scale length and a 52 mm nut width, the guitar brings together familiar classical proportions and thoughtful contemporary features.

The tonal qualities of this instrument are particularly impressive, combining extraordinary sustain with a rich spectrum of overtones and an exceptionally responsive character. Individual notes develop with remarkable freedom, sustaining for an unusually long time with an almost piano-like resonance. Chords unfold with considerable depth and harmonic richness, allowing their individual voices to blend into a beautifully resonant whole. Despite its powerful lattice construction, the guitar possesses a surprisingly sweet and lyrical tonal character, recalling some of the warmth and intimacy associated with traditional Spanish instruments. Its response is remarkably immediate, requiring very little effort from the player to produce a full and resonant sound. Even the lightest touch brings the instrument to life, offering an effortless connection between musical intention and acoustic response. This combination of power, sweetness, exceptional sustain, and spontaneous responsiveness makes the 2025 Fernando Mazza 20th Anniversary a highly expressive concert guitar, equally suited to demanding repertoire and the most delicate musical passages.

Condition

This 2025 Fernando Mazza 20th Anniversary model is presented in excellent, nearly mint condition.
