His instruments reflect a close study of important early 20th-century models, interpreted through meticulous craftsmanship and precise construction. Historical techniques, proportions, and aesthetics remain central to his approach, resulting in guitars distinguished by structural clarity, tonal purity, and understated visual refinement.

About the guitar

Built in 1993, this guitar offers an intriguing view into an early period of Gerhard Oldiges’ work. The cedar top is paired with Madagascar rosewood back and sides, while a restrained detail on the headstock already points toward the Spanish aesthetic that would become closely associated with his later instruments.

Musically, the guitar is remarkably immediate. Notes seem to release with very little resistance, giving the instrument a free, almost breathing response and making rapid changes of articulation feel effortless. The sound carries a rich field of overtones and generous projection, yet remains coherent and naturally balanced across the registers.

There is an especially open quality to the resonance: the guitar reacts readily to small changes of touch and allows musical lines to develop with an easy sense of flow. Combined with its lively response and overtone-rich voice, this gives the instrument an unusually direct and engaging playing character while offering a fascinating perspective on Oldiges’ early development as a maker.

Condition

The guitar is in excellent condition, consistent with careful use and storage.
