During his early years, he combined guitar making with restoration and repair, giving him the opportunity to study important instruments by makers including Vicente Arias, Domingo Esteso, Santos Hernández, Manuel Ramírez, Hermann Hauser I and José Luis Romanillos. Since moving to North Devon in 1991, Aram has concentrated on the development of smaller-bodied spruce-top guitars in the Torres and Hauser tradition. His association with Julian Bream is especially notable: Bream acquired two of his guitars in the 1980s, and the 1988 instrument “Myrtle” was used for the recording of Miguel Llobet’s Catalan folk-song arrangements on \u003cem\u003eLa Guitarra Romantica\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003ch3\u003eAbout the guitar\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eThe 2026 “Dua” stands firmly within the tradition Kevin Aram has refined over decades: a traditionally constructed, smaller-bodied spruce-top guitar with Indian rosewood back and sides, shaped by balance, responsiveness and musical control rather than sheer force. Its voice is notably clean and natural, with a remarkably even relationship between the registers. Melodic lines retain a consistent presence as they move across the fingerboard, while the overtone content remains coherent from note to note. Sustain is one of the instrument’s strongest qualities: tones continue with patience and stability, allowing phrases and harmonies to unfold without being hurried. The response is immediate yet composed, giving the player considerable control over colour and articulation.
