His own classical guitar studies placed particular emphasis on producing a strong, beautiful and expressive sound with a broad range of tonal colours, an experience that later became an important foundation for his work as a maker. After completing his studies in English literature in 2003, he began teaching himself guitar making and woodworking, while also receiving extensive guidance from the respected English luthier Christopher Dean. After building several instruments, Myers attended José Romanillos’ guitar-making course in Spain, deepening his understanding of the traditional Spanish guitar and the relationship between construction and sound. Today he works from his workshop in Oxfordshire, where the continual refinement of design, wood selection and construction remains central to his approach. His experience with Kent Guitar Classics also gave him the opportunity to study and measure many fine historical and contemporary instruments.

About the guitar

This 2026 Oren Myers is a traditional spruce and Indian rosewood concert guitar with a particularly sustained and substantial voice. Notes carry for an unusually long time, allowing melodic lines to linger and giving the player greater freedom in shaping the pacing and direction of a phrase. Beneath this sustain is a strong tonal core: the sound remains clear and focused, yet avoids becoming sharp or overly brilliant. Instead, the upper register combines definition with a smoother edge, while the instrument retains the lucid brilliance that characterises Myers’ tonal approach. Across the registers, the response feels even and well proportioned, with chords retaining clarity as the individual voices continue to resonate.

There is also considerable breadth available under the right hand. The guitar responds with convincing volume when asked, yet its strength is not based on brightness alone; projection is supported by the density and persistence of the tone. Visually, the instrument reflects the same disciplined approach. Carefully selected spruce and Indian rosewood are brought together with meticulous workmanship, while the intricate rosette provides a distinctive focal point within an otherwise restrained traditional aesthetic. The precise execution and carefully polished surfaces reinforce the sense of refinement without distracting from the classical character of the design.
