Carrillo received a Regional Craftsmanship Award in 2009 and a National Award in 2010. In this 63 cm spruce version, the sound is notably round and supple, with a generous overtone field surrounding the fundamental. Notes develop with softness rather than hardness, yet remain present and clearly shaped, giving melodic lines a broad, singing quality and allowing chords to retain colour as they decay.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eOne of the guitar’s most striking qualities is how readily it releases sound. Very little effort is needed to bring a note into full presence, and this immediacy gives the instrument an unusually cooperative character in technically demanding repertoire. Fast passages can be articulated without having to force the sound, while longer notes are supported by substantial sustain. Carrillo’s light lattice bracing contributes to this combination of continuity and balance, while the double-sided construction is designed to reinforce projection and keep the response quick and direct.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eFor the Gabriela II guitars supplied to Siccas Guitars, Carrillo uses a specially selected stock of Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides, paired here with a spruce double top. What distinguishes this version is its particularly compact playing geometry: the 630 mm scale and 50.5 mm nut width reduce left-hand stretches and make extended positions and technically dense passages noticeably more accessible. Combined with the guitar’s low-effort response, this creates an instrument that feels unusually easy to navigate without sacrificing the rounded, overtone-rich and sustaining character of the Gabriela II.
