Description
Carl Hermann Schäfer started making guitars in 1966. He did his apprenticeship under the guidance of master guitar maker Ernest Köröskeny and later studied under master guitar maker Dieter Hopf. After having worked in Hopf’s workshop from 1971 to 1994, he opened his own in Oberneisen and moved to Niederbrechen, Germany, five years later.
This superb guitar is strongly inspired by the 1925 Santos Hernandez owned by Wulfin Lieske. It has a sumptuous voice and an outstanding ability to sing, which greatly motivated Carl-Hermann Schäfer to make a copy. The instrument presented here is made with a very beautiful set of flamed maple, a wood that was used frequently in the 1920s by Santos Hernandez. In addition, the high quality of the spruce top is highlighted by a wonderful honey-colored french polish, giving this guitar a vintage and authentic look. The highest quality Scheller tuning machines ensure perfect tuning and the condition of this instrument is excellent with only a very few playing marks.
In addition to its authentic look, this guitar also sounds incredibly close to the original. The sound of this instrument is very Spanish, warm, and powerful. It has all the characteristics of early 20th century Madrid guitars with powerful basses and particularly singing and inspiring trebles. The playability is so pleasing that one can fully focus on the music the sound, and the pleasure of playing an instrument of such quality.
