Description
Dake Traphagen is one of the most renown guitar makers in the USA and runs his workshop in Bellingham, Washington State. The fact that he became a guitar maker was a big but pleasant surprise in his life, which he had not planned. He trained in California before traveling to Europe in 1976 to, among other things, work with Dutch guitar maker Nico van der Waals and finally devoting himself entirely to building various instruments such as guitars, lutes, vihuelas, harps, and harpsichords.
This eight-string Koi-Koi model by Dake Traphagen was built in 2003. Back and sides are made of Granadillo and the top is made of cedar with a traditional 5-strut bracing. It has an overall powerful, yet controllable tone and the response is direct and immediate. This guitar has a wonderful warm sound character with dark but well-separated basses and a very warm treble with a wide overtone spectrum. This Traphagen shows almost no signs of use and is in excellent condition.
