Description
Johann Georg Stauffer was born on the 26th January 1778 in Vienna, an influent city in the lutherie world of this time, where he worked and died on the 24th January 1853.
This wonderful guitar, built by Johann Georg Stauffer around 1825, is one of the later models featuring with the reference „nach dem Modell des Luigi Legnani“ (= in accordance to the model by Luigi Legnani). This particular guitar appears in the book “Stauffer & Co” by Erik Pierre Hofmann, Pacal Mougin and Stefan Hackl on page 154/155.
The top is made of spruce wood and has a matt finish. The soundhole is decorated with light and dark veneers. The guitar’s bridge is decorated with floral motivs. The sides as well as the one-piece back are made of maple and show the typical coat of varnish which is a characteristic feature of Stauffer’s guitars. It has some very well repaired cracks on the top and is fully playable. This guitar is Cites-free (CF).
