Description
Born in 1976 Karel Dedain built his first guitar in 1998. He lives and works in Gent, Belgium. His passion for playing the Flamenco guitar awakened his interest in guitar building. He studied at the CMP (Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw) with Walter Verreydt, and since 2006 making guitars has been his main job. Karel is specialized in classical and Flamenco guitars. Furthermore, he teaches guitar making at the center of musical instrument building in Puurs, Belgium, together with Walter Verreydt. Karel makes about ten guitars a year, all of them completely handmade. One of his specialties is the French polish finish. His philosophy is not to invent everything from scratch but to make use of the best ideas of historic luthiers, such as Torres, Garcia, Arias and Hernandez.
This gorgeous guitar was built in 2018 and comes straight out of Karel’s workshop. It has a very light lattice-braced cedar top, framed by bright fine marquetry mosaic and highlighted in the middle by a sumptuous handmade rosette. The Cocobolo back and sides are of an exceptional quality, with a striking colour and hypnotic figures. Sound wise, the guitar is a true masterpiece. It has a deep rounded tone with slightly dark middle range and explosive trebles. It is a powerful instrument that fills concert halls and offers the player a poetic playing experience. A hard-shell case is included.
