Description
Kevin Aram was born on 13 August 1949 and grew up in Clipstone in Nottinghamshire. In 1978 he started constructing guitars full time. Since then he has built more than 300 guitars. As a restorer he was also able to study instruments which were built by different great and important luthiers, like for example Vicente Arias, Paulino Bernabé, Domingo Esteso, Arcangel Fernandez, Ignacio Fleta, Santos Hernandez, Manuel Ramirez, Josè Romanillos and David Rubio. Since 1991 Kevin Aram focuses on the construction of guitars which follow the Torres tradition. One of the best known guitarists that owned a Kevin Aram guitar was certainly Julian Bream. The two men got to know each other personally in 1986 and in October of the same year, Bream bought the guitar “La Cancion”. Two years later, in 1988, a second guitar called “Myrtle” followed. Both instruments were played by Bream on concerts and “Myrtle” also for the CD “Julian Bream – La Guitarra Romantica”. This guitar was built in 1986 for the guitarist and composer Lee Sollory and was for 15 years in his possession. It has a Cedar top which is very rare because Kevin Aram built only a few of this guitars with Cedar top. The guitar has a fivepart back made of Ziricote. It had a little crack on the back that was repaired and is not visible. It has the original machine heads made by Rodgers that are nowadays very rare.
