Description

Masaki Sakurai, the nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at Sophia University and joined “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” after graduating in 1967. In 1988 he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai’s guitars have impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their ease of playing and great sound volume.

This beautiful guitar has all the aesthetic qualities of the Kohno Guitar Manufacturing guitars, such as perfect craftsmanship and a fine-grained soundboard. The shape of the headstock is a combination of the head shape of the guitars of Robert Bouchet and Masaru Kohno. The tuners are made by Gotoh and have the peculiarity of having silver barrels.

This elegant and stylish guitar is a faithful replica of the instrument that won Masaki Sakurai first prize at the prestigious International Guitar Making Competition in Paris in 1988. This “PC” model, short for “Paris Competition”, embodies Masaki Sakurai’s decades of experience with a single guitar. It features the finest woods, a sophisticated bracing pattern and a rich sound. This 2022 instrument has bold and rounded trebles with sonorous basses and middle voices and a powerful expression that fulfills the requirements of discerning guitarists to the fullest.
