Rafal Turkowiak was born in Golanice near Leszno, Poland, on 9 January 1966. His father, a carpenter, and grandfather, a wheelwright, had a great influence on him in the field of carpentry and wood technology. Twenty years of guitar-making and experimenting with a very scientific and modern approach brought him to develop construction concepts improving the resonance of the guitar: the “WAVE” structure.
This wonderful instrument is really one of a kind. With a mesmerizing arched back made of Ziricote, giving center stage a wide light sapwood part in the middle, it really has a unique look. The spruce top has an outermost light lattice bracing reinforced with carbon fibre to give great responsiveness and lightness. Of course, this instrument features the famous “Acoustic tube” inside the neck, to give the latter a greater role in the overall resonance of the guitar.
This unique guitar is very easy to play and shows a rich steady tone. With abundant, yet controlled, overtones, the first e string is genuinely reliable and offers a consistent sustain up to the highest notes. This feeling of consistency and evenness is to be found all around the registers of this guitar. Yet offering an ample volume, one really notices that Turkowiak focused on the quality of sound and balance for this marvellous instrument.
