Description
Vicente Arias (1833-1914) was born in Ciudad Real, in the south of Madrid. Like Antonio de Torres he started as a cabinet maker and taught himself to be a guitar maker. He probably started to build guitars in 1860. He won many prestigious prizes around the world i.e. Buenos Aires, Madrid, Brussels and Barcelona. Famous guitarists like Francisco Tárrega played his guitars. This instrument was built in 1901 and is in top playing condition. It is one of the first of Arias’ guitars that have a big plantilla and the bridge of his concert guitars. The spruce top has some repairs but regarding its age it is in very good condition as well as the cypress back. The fretboard and the frets are original – the ebony head plate was replaced as well as the tuning machines (Sloane). A hardshell case is included.
