Description
The Premium models are unique instruments that are developed in cooperation with a selection of exceptional luthiers. These models are exclusively available at Siccas Guitars and are built with the finest Cites-certified Brazilian rosewood of premium quality. Due to its outstanding physical and tonal characteristics, this wood has been used in guitar building since the 19th century and is regarded as the most valuable and aesthetically appealing tonewood in guitar building.
Walter Verreydt built his first guitars in 1985. He was primarily a woodworking teacher, and his love for music led him to make his first guitar and become a luthier. Since 1988 Walter teaches classical guitar making at the “Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw” in Puurs (Belgium). He studied many guitars of famous luthiers like Ignacio Fleta, Robert Bouchet, Hernandez y Aguado, and many more. His excellent relationships with Daniel Friederich and José Romanillos helped him in the development of his own ideas. His guitars are handmade in the Spanish tradition, and every instrument is the product of his personal growth and ongoing studies.
This new guitar built in 2021 is characterized by great elegance and sophistication down to the smallest detail. Walter Verreydt chose a gorgeous set of very dense and particularly colorful Brazilian rosewood (CITES certified) for this instrument. The timber presents parallel black veins contrasting perfectly with the orange and green reflections of the wood. Just as the rest of the guitar, the spruce top is French polished with clear shellac revealing the wood grain in all its natural beauty. Walter Verreydt’s guitars are also recognizable by their delicate marquetry. Moreover, this instrument is elaborately decorated with a rosette with three geometric friezes and purfling inlays on the head plate, which recall the central pattern of the rosette. Finally, the elegance of the very dark head veneer and the high-quality German Klaus Scheller tuners underlines the importance that Walter Verreydt gave to the aesthetics of this guitar.
The subtlety in the sound of this Walter Verreydt guitar is truly astonishing. With its lattice braced top, made without the use of carbon and developing a very rooted wooden tone, this instrument allows a gentle and friendly approach. Especially remarkable are the round and ample trebles. It is fascinating to note the surprisingly powerful and open sound this guitar develops even with a very soft and relaxed touch.
