Überblick
Bernd Holzgruber was born in 1939 in Velden at Wörthersee (Carinthia) in Austria. He studied guitar with Karl Scheit in Vienna and played his final examination in 1968 on a self-constructed instrument. Since then, he took care of Scheit’s instrument collection, which gave him the possibility to study master guitars as Robert Bouchet’s instruments. He is a pioneer in the construction of historical instruments and a creative luthier. He continuously developed his models during his 50-year career.
This very interesting 2005 concert model has a beautifully built seven-piece arched back in the style of a baroque guitar or a lute. This striking feature gives both a unique look to this instrument and provides some extra power and sustain. The separation of voices and the overall balance in this guitar are remarkable and the sound-character is rather nice and bright for a cedar top.
