Pepe Romero Jr. – Guitar maker

Pepe Romero Jr. was born into a family where the Spanish guitar is lived. From childhood, Pepe loved the guitar. He grew up playing some of the most important guitars in the world from his father’s incredible collection. Growing up surrounded by guitars made by Torres, Esteso, Santos Hernandez, Hauser, and Miguel Rodriguez set the standard for how a guitar should be built.

At the age of 18, Pepe visited Dake Traphagen’s workshop to build a guitar. When that guitar was finished, Pepe decided to pursue guitar building. In 1997, Pepe was lucky enough to spend some time in the workshop of Miguel Rodriguez, just before he passed away. He then studied with and was guided by J.L. Romanillos, Manuel Contreras II, Yuris Zeltins and Edmund Blöchinger.

When it comes to guitars, Pepe is heavily influenced by Rodriguez guitars. His construction style is very similar to Rodriguez’s. He is also inspired by the elegant look and beautiful sound of Santos Hernandez and Domingo Esteso guitars.

As of fall 2018, Pepe has built over 301 guitars. Each one is handmade and built in the traditional Spanish method. His guitars are highly sought after by classical guitarists and collectors worldwide.

After a family vacation to Hawaii in 2010, Pepe fell in love with the beautiful sound of the ukulele. Since then, Pepe has been building ukuleles using his approach and techniques of classical guitar building, creating ukuleles that closely resemble small classical guitars. In 2012, Pepe founded Romero Creations, his high-end instrument company that aims to provide incredible sounding, playing and looking instruments that people will cherish for a lifetime.
