Kazuo Sato – Guitar Maker
Kazuo Sato was born in Tokyo in 1946. In 1965, he began learning his craft under the guidance of guitar master Kuniharu Nobe. In the same year, Kazuo Sato started his apprenticeship with guitar master Nobe in Tokyo. In 1971, he traveled to Oxford, England to study under the renowned master David Rubio, under whose guidance he built guitars and lutes for over 4 years, perfecting his skills. In 1974, he opened his first workshop in Belgium and settled in Germany two years later. With ever-new ideas and innovations, he continues to push forward the development of the traditional concert guitar to this day.
His son Hideo, who, like his brother, studied classical guitar with Prof. Ansgar Krause, followed the happenings in the workshop with great interest from a young age. Despite having a promising career in the software industry in Japan, he decided in 2011 to dedicate himself entirely to guitar making. After several years of apprenticeship, he now builds classical concert guitars together with his father. Hideo draws upon his father’s wealth of experience and builds upon it with his own ideas. His initial instruments were played and appreciated by well-known guitarists and professors.
We are committed to promoting guitar culture through the establishment of the classical concert series “Best of Guitar,” serving on the board of the “Kultur und Gitarre e.V.” association, and supporting the Int. Guitar Festival Augsburg.
Regularly, we collaborate with international artists on the demanding development of sound and playing characteristics. The globally sought-after concert guitarist and professor Takeo has been our most important advisor in this regard since the beginning of his career.
