Walter Verreydt – Guitar Maker
Walter Verreydt embarked on his journey as a guitar maker in 1985. As a woodworking teacher and a music enthusiast, it was a natural progression for him to develop an interest in crafting musical instruments. His passion for the sound of the classical guitar ignited his journey into guitar making.
From the outset, Walter had the opportunity to study the work of renowned guitar makers such as Bouchet, Fleta, Hernandez-Aguado, among others. He also established connections with significant guitar makers like Daniel Friedrich and José Romanillos. This proved to be a rich source of information. It was in Granada that he delved into the elegant and refined South Spanish guitar-making tradition.
Since 1988, Walter has been teaching classical guitar making at the Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw in Puurs, Belgium. Beyond imparting the essential fundamentals, he endeavors to instill an affinity for the instrument and the craft in his students.
His guitars are meticulously handcrafted in the Spanish tradition. Each instrument represents the product of personal growth and continuous study. Consequently, details may vary between instruments, such as headstock shape and slight alterations in the body shape.
Only carefully selected, premium-quality woods that have been aged for over 10 years in optimal conditions are used for crafting these instruments.
The rosettes are crafted in small quantities with a personal design touch. They are made from materials like boxwood, ebony, maple, mahogany, rosewood, and fruitwoods.
Standard scale length: 650mm (other scale lengths available upon request)
Tuning machines: “Irvin Sloane” (other tuning machines available upon request)
Wood selection:
Top: European spruce, Western Red Cedar, Sitka spruce
Back and sides: Rosewood, European maple, Cypress
Neck: Cedar
In every guitar Walter Verreydt creates, there’s a harmonious blend of meticulous craftsmanship, dedication to tradition, and a deep appreciation for the soul-stirring sound of the classical guitar.
