Walter Verreydt – Luthier

Walter Verreydt made his first instruments in 1985. As a woodworking teacher and a music lover, it was a logical step to my interest in the construction of musical instruments.
His passion for the sound of the classical guitar drove him to guitar making.

From the start, Walter had the opportunity to study the work of renowned guitar makers as Bouchet, Fleta, Hernandez-Aguado, and others. He also had good contacts with eminent guitar makers as Daniel Friedrich and José Romanillos. This was a rich source of information. In Granada, he got acquainted with the elegant and refined South Spanish guitar-making tradition.

Since 1988 Walter teaches Classical guitar making at the Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw in Puurs (Belgium). Next to the necessary basics, he tries to bring his students to an affinity for the instrument and the craftsmanship.

The guitars are handmade in the Spanish tradition. Every instrument is the product of personal growth and constant studies. Therefore details can differ between instruments, such as the shape of the head and small changes in the form of the body.

All instruments are made with carefully selected top-quality woods that have been aged over 10 years in the best conditions.

The rosettes are made in small quantities in personal design. They are made of boxwood, ebony, maple, mahogany, rosewood, and fruit trees.
