The Beginnings
Yulong Guo embarked on his journey into the world of guitar-making nearly four decades ago in China. At a time when Western music and its instruments were gaining popularity in China, Guo felt the magic of the guitar and the necessity to give it its own, Chinese touch. Starting humbly, marked by experimentation and self-study, Guo slowly developed his own style and approach to the instrument.
Influence and Innovation
While many guitar craftsmen abide by time-tested traditions, Guo has always advocated for pushing the boundaries of the possible. For instance, he popularized the use of the double-top – a technique where two ultra-thin layers of wood are separated by an intermediary layer, often of a material like Nomex. This approach not only reduced the weight of the guitar but also enhanced its sound quality and volume.
Moreover, Guo has experimented with various woods and materials, seeking the ideal timbres and resonances for his instruments. His decision to use Indian rosewood for the back and sides, arched in the style of a violin, is just one example of his creative approach.

His guitars are renowned not just for their sound quality but also for their playability. Guo has designed the upper part of the guitar body to offer a raised fretboard in the style of Humphrey guitars, significantly improving the playability of the high notes.
