Description
Gerhard Oldiges started to build guitars at the end of the 70s during his studies. After graduation, he started a two-year apprenticeship as a guitar maker. Afterwards he initially worked in a guitar repair workshop. In 1988 he attended a guitar building workshop with José Romanillos, who became his friend, and since 1996 Gerhard Oldiges has assisted several of the master’s workshops. He has concentrated on the history of Spanish guitar building and thus one of his specialties is the replication of old Spanish master instruments by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramírez and others.
This Torres copy from 2011 combines a gorgeous spruce top with beautiful cypress back and sides. The guitar has a marvelously mellow and lovely sound. Due to the Tornavoz the basses and mids have a warm singing touch, underlining the bright trebles pleasantly. The instrument is in very good condition. The tuners are made by Rodgers. A Hiscox Pro II hardshell case is included.
