Description
Johann Georg Stauffer was born on 26th January 1778 in Vienna where he also died later on 24th January 1853.
This wonderful guitar, constructed by Johann Georg Stauffer represents an intermediate stage in the model development between the early Italian models and the later models which were constructed by Stauffer with the reference „nach dem Modell des Luigi Legnani“ (=in accordance to the model by Luigi Legnani). Because of the design and the inscription “Georg Stauffer in Wien” (= Georg Stauffer in Vienna) this guitar can be assigned to the year 1820 or possibly also a bit later. The top is made of spruce wood and it is coated with a clear varnish. The soundhole is relatively small and decorated with light and dark veneers. The guitar’s bridge is designed in a plain and modest manner. The ribs as well as the one-piece back are made of maple and show the typical red coat of varnish which is a characteristic feature of the Stauffer-guitars of that time.
