Description
Marco Lijoi is an Itialian luthier based in Savigliano in the province of Cuneo. He started playing the guitar at the early age of four, and since his passion for woodworking was overtaking his interest in physics, becoming a luthier became evident after his high school graduation. Therefore, Marco entered the prestigious guitar-making school “Civica Scuola di Liuteria” in Milan, where he received a Master Luthier title after four years of intense studies. Marco Lijoi now opened his own workshop in Savigliano (CN), where he builds first-quality instruments inspired by nature, particularly the mountains and the sky.
Marco Lijoi’s latest guitar project is a culmination of his extensive experience and personal philosophy, embodying his classical guitar studies, dedication to craftsmanship, and a scientific inclination towards research, along with his passions for the efficient use of time and astronomy. This instrument was crafted following the principle of κατά μέτρον (katà metron), an ancient Greek concept meaning “according to the right measure.” This approach guided Marco to respect his limitations and embrace them in the making of this guitar, ensuring that each aspect of the instrument was created with precision and mindful of its intrinsic boundaries.
The construction of the guitar is rooted in traditional techniques with a soundboard that features a seven fan bracing system, supplemented with a small under-bridge chain spanning from side to side and finished with two whiskers. The rosette is designed to depict the celestial vault, crafted from epoxy resin enhanced with alcohol-based colors and speckled with gold and silver dust, evoking a sense of the night sky. Additionally, the table edge decoration mirrors this astronomical theme. To ensure the neck remains stable and durable, two carbon bars have been integrated into its structure. The guitar is tuned to a pitch of G/G#, and Marco has chosen a simple yet elegant aesthetic line for this guitar, prioritizing functional features over ornamental ones. The finish is a traditional shellac, applied by pad directly in Marco’s workshop, which he believes will help the guitar truly resonate with the emotions and expressions of the musicians who play it.
