Description

Roy Fankhänel’s runs his workshop in Oelsnitz, Germany, where he builds guitars in the German tradition. He shows a very high level of craftmanship that can be seen in features such as the V-joint, the details of the rosette, the design of the head and the quality of the construction in general. His guitars are powerful instruments with a generous rich sound. They are very easy to play and feature a slightly radiused elevated fingerboard.

The Roy Fankhänel RF 173 from 2016 is a finely crafted classical guitar that stands out for its exceptional details and high-quality materials. This masterpiece is unique, possessing a selection of special features that are truly unparalleled.

The first striking element of this guitar is the specially designed decorative motifs. The rosette and ornaments adorning the binding are meticulously crafted, lending the instrument an aura of traditional charm and timeless elegance. The bridge, constructed from Indian Rosewood, is a testament to fine craftsmanship. Its 12-hole-drilling harmonizes seamlessly with the overall aesthetics of the instrument.

Accentuating the guitar’s precious character are the eye-catching purflings made from Indian rosewood, maple, and pear wood. These elements don’t merely add visual interest but also contribute to the instrument’s structural integrity. Their intricate design highlights the overall visual appeal of the RF 173 and underscores the painstaking attention to detail that went into its construction.

The guitar’s back and sides are made of Caribbean rosewood, a dense hardwood revered for its ability to produce deep, rich tones. This complements the top, which is made from Alpine spruce, a material known for its superior resonance and ability to create clear, crisp tones, making this guitar not only aesthetically pleasing but also a musical powerhouse.

In conclusion, the Roy Fankhänel RF 173 from 2016 is a magnificent marriage of artisanal craftsmanship and top-tier materials. Each detail, from the selection of woods to the carefully designed decorative elements, converges to create an instrument of superior tonal quality, visual elegance, and overall excellence.
