Description
Stephen got his first acoustic guitar at 18, after having been passionately into music for many years. He attended evening classes by Master Luthier Stephen Hill in 2004, which inspired him into guitar making. Soon after, Stephen apprenticed at the workshop of Pablo Requena for two years, where he received a great foundation of knowledge and skills that he continues to put to use today. Stephen finally set up his first workshop in 2008. He has enjoyed building guitars for many professional guitarists, such as Paul Gregory, Juan Martin, Peter Stuart, Sean Shibe, Ian Watt, Andrew Gough, Allan Neave, Gaëlle Solall, Pavel Ralev, Bridget Mermikides, and Mark Eden.
This 2023 guitar, meticulously crafted as a one-to-one copy of a celebrated 1959 German guitar, stands as a testament to the fusion of historical inspiration and contemporary craftsmanship. The instrument features a spruce soundboard, a choice revered for its bright and clear tonal qualities, which perfectly complements the visually stunning and sonically rich Indian rosewood used for the back and sides. This guitar is not just a reproduction; it’s a reverent homage to its 1959 predecessor, capturing the essence and spirit of the original. The combination of woods results in a sound profile that is both complex and lyrical, making it an exceptional choice for concert performances. The trebles are intricate yet melodious, blending seamlessly with deep, punchy basses to produce a sound that is both beautiful and robust, meeting the diverse demands of concert performers with ease.
The clarity of this guitar is a standout feature, ranking among the best in contemporary classical guitars. It offers a pureness of tone that is rare and highly sought after, with each note resonating with unparalleled clarity. This clarity enhances the guitar’s ability to project in large spaces, ensuring that every subtlety of the performance is conveyed to the audience. The organic voicing of the guitar adds to its charm, offering a sound that is natural, uncolored, and true to the character of the woods from which it is made. Every aspect of this guitar’s design and construction has been carefully considered to create an instrument that not only looks exquisite but also provides an extraordinary auditory experience. This 2023 guitar is more than just an instrument; it’s a masterpiece of luthiery, combining aesthetic beauty with sonic excellence, making it a prized possession for any serious guitarist or collector.
