Description
Valerio Licari was born in Rome, Italy, in 1981. After studying classical and fingerpicking guitar, violin and graduating with a bachelor’s in ethnomusicology, Valerio Licari began his apprenticeship as an instrument maker at the International School of Violin Making “Antonio Stradivari” in 2006. After his graduation in 2011, he went to Spain to deepen his knowledge and skills under the guidance of Daniele Chiesa. His stay in Spain yet lasted seven years, as he opened his own workshop in Granada. In 2019, Valerio Licari came back to Italy and established his workshop in Turin, where he builds fine Spanish-influenced classical guitars. In addition to his career as a luthier, Valerio Licari also teaches guitar making at the Piedmontese Lutherie Academy “San Filippo” in Turin.
Due to the large number of excellent luthiers exhibiting their instruments and the outstanding quality of the guitars presented at the Roma Guitar Expo, it is certainly a globally unique event in the area of classical guitars. Every year, carefully selected guitar makers are invited to present a special edition, a one- of-a-kind guitar that sets a very high benchmark in terms of woodworking, craftsmanship and sound.
Valerio Licari’s 2022 REG Limited Edition guitar is an homage to his natal city of Rome, Italy. This “Pantheon ” edition features a unique rosette, inspired by the sealing of the famous building and making this guitar a unique art piece. Guitar making and architecture have a lot in common, and many luthiers found their inspiration in their cities’ buildings and architectural features. This guitar is a beautiful example of this century-old tradition and the rosette, mimicking the square structure of the inner flank of the dome, gives it a memorable look. Another ravishing of its characteristic is its three-piece back with Indian rosewood on the outer and an inner stripe of maple, producing a striking contrast.
