Andrés Daniel Marvi – Master Luthier of Handcrafted Classical and Flamenco Guitars

Introduction

Andrés Daniel Marvi is a renowned luthier celebrated for exceptional classical and flamenco guitars, which combine traditional craftsmanship with modern refinements. With over three decades of experience, Marvi has become a leading figure in the world of handmade guitars, crafting instruments prized by elite musicians worldwide.

Early Life and the Journey into Lutherie

Born in 1956, Andrés Daniel Marvi began playing the guitar regularly from a young age. After completing his A-levels, he worked as a guitar instructor at various conservatories. However, his true passion lay in creating instruments rather than just playing them.

Driven by a desire to develop his own unique sound, Marvi began crafting guitars by hand. His dedication to perfection and sound exploration led him to attend a guitar-making course in Zurich in 1984, where he studied under legendary luthier José Luis Romanillos.

This experience confirmed his exceptional craftsmanship and technical ability. A year later, in 1985, he completed his examinations in guitar-making in Erlangen, Germany, solidifying his place in professional lutherie.

The Move to Spain – Crafting in the Heart of Guitar Tradition

In 1988, Marvi relocated to a small village near Granada, Spain, a region known as a hub for master luthiers and world-class guitar craftsmanship. Surrounded by Andalusian culture and Spanish guitar-making, he refined his techniques and developed a distinctive sound.

Continuous Learning and Innovation

Marvi remains open to innovation while respecting traditional methods. In 1992, he returned to study again with Romanillos in Córdoba, further enriching his understanding of Spanish guitar construction.

His pursuit of perfecting tone and playability led him to participate in the Liechtenstein Guitar Festival (LiGiTa) in 1996, where he met guitar dealer Norbert Giebel. This encounter inspired a new concert guitar model that further elevated Marvi’s designs.
