Giancarlo Nannoni - 2024 Medea

Giancarlo Nannoni - 2024 Medea

Overview

Giancarlo Nannoni has been building classical guitars since 1994, blending his technical studies with a deep love for music. From his adolescent years of playing various instruments, a visit to the workshop of luthier Contavalli in Imola sparked his initial interest in crafting instruments. Embarking on a self-taught journey, Giancarlo delved deep into the nuances of guitar construction, visiting museums and studying the works of historic luthiers. Invited to major exhibitions across Italy and delivering lectures on lutherie, he enriched his expertise through interactions with numerous musicians. Today, his instruments resonate in Italy and beyond, gracing the hands of conservatory professors and award-winning concert artists.

The 2024 guitar from Giancarlo Nannoni’s workshop is a stunning testament to both artistic vision and technical ingenuity. Its fine spruce soundboard is paired with Cocobolo wood for the back and sides, known for its vibrant hues and intricate grain, lending the instrument a luxurious, distinct character. At the heart of its design is a groundbreaking bracing system that blends tradition with innovation: a combination of seven spruce braces and six reverse cedar braces meticoulously crafted. This structural harmony not only pushes the boundaries of luthiery but also ensures exceptional tonal performance. The guitar produces velvety, direct trebles alongside deep, crunchy basses, creating a tonal palette that is both balanced and expressive. Each note resonates with clarity and warmth, embodying the craftsmanship and forward-thinking approach that define Nannoni’s work, making this instrument as captivating in sound as it is in appearance.

Giancarlo Nannoni 2024 "Medea" Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
