Ignacio Fleta e hijos - 1991

Ignacio Fleta e hijos - 1991

Overview

Ignacio Fleta (1897-1977) is one of the most famous luthiers of the twentieth century. In addition to being a successful guitar maker, he was a recognized bowed and ancient instrument luthier (violins, violas, cellos, vihuelas, and violas de gamba). After his death, his work was continued by his two sons Gabriel and Francisco Fleta and later by his grandson Gabriel Fleta Jr. The current waiting time for a new guitar is about 20 years. This guitar’s rosette is very specific of Fleta’s work and inspired by the famous late nineteenth century guitar makers. The innermost and outermost part of the guitar’s rosette consists of a herringbone pattern ring. In the middle of those two rings, the central mosaic is in the shape of blossoms. This instrument has a cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides. It is equipped with Fustero machine heads. This guitar is a true rarity for guitar collectors and players. A hard-shell case is included.

This great guitar bearing the number 929, is an excellent sample of Ignacio Fleta e hijos guitars. We received it from its first owner, a professional guitarist and teacher, who ordered it and picked it up directly from the workshop in Barcelona in 1991. Although this guitar has been played regularly, it is in very good condition with some playing marks here and there, but in an altogether good structural overall condition. There is a small hairline crack on the top, which is hardly noticeable and seems to have been there from the beginning. It is stable and does not go through the entire thickness of the wood. Some slightly milky spots are visible under the original varnish, the latter being original and having been repaired in one place on the back.

The audible power and spontaneity of this instrument are impressive. Fleta guitars are known for their powerful sound, but this model from 1991 has also a light and playful character. The soundboard reacts very fast and direct and the guitar inspires with many different timbres. Also the playability is really excellent. The trebles are distinguished by a particular finesse and delicacy, and the sustain of the guitar is impressive. The result is a wonderful guitar with a deep and

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
