Marcin Dylla, hailed by the Washington Post as “one of the most gifted guitarists on the planet,” has firmly established himself as one of the world’s elite classical guitarists. Born in Chorzów, Poland, in 1976, Dylla has captivated audiences worldwide with his technical mastery and expressive performances. He has won an unparalleled 19 First Prizes in prestigious international guitar competitions between 1996 and 2007, earning him global recognition.
Career Highlights and Performances
One of Dylla’s greatest achievements was winning the 2007 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in Los Angeles, widely regarded as the most prestigious guitar competition globally. This victory led to a tour of over 50 cities across North America, Mexico, and Canada during the 2008/09 season. His live recital for Mel Bay Publications and a CD for Naxos Records made it into Naxos’s “Top 10 Bestselling Albums” in September 2008.
Dylla’s concert appearances have taken him to renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Taipei National Concert Hall, performing with orchestras such as the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, Cecilia Rodrigo, the daughter of the legendary composer Joaquín Rodrigo, selected him to premiere a newly discovered work by her father, Toccata (1933), in Madrid. Earlier, in 2002, he was awarded the “Gold Guitar” prize for Best Young Guitarist at the 7th International Guitar Convention in Alessandria, Italy.
Musical Training
Dylla’s early training began at the Ruda Śląska Music Conservatory in Poland. He later studied under celebrated guitarists such as Oscar Ghiglia, Sonja Prunnbauer, and Carlo Marchione at music academies in Basel, Freiburg, and Maastricht, respectively.
