Francesco de Gregorio - 2024 No. 110 REG 2024 Limited Edition

Overview

Craftsmanship has been among Francesco de Gregorio’s innate inclinations since childhood. His grandfather could do virtually anything with his hands, and Francesco liked to watch him build chairs or cast irons, knowing how to use his art of “make do” to create useful things for everyday life. When he was fifteen, he started learning to play the guitar and taught himself. At the age of eighteen, with the same passion, he moved to guitar building with an extraordinary passion. Francesco’s idea of a great instrument follows the original path of the great masters of the modern guitar. He pursues a pure, never forced sound: the sound quickly produced by a light construction, with respect for wood and its natural fragility. When building his instruments, he looks for aesthetic beauty and suitable taste in different combinations.

The Francesco De Gregorio REG 2024 N°110 model is a classical guitar meticulously built on the Santos Hernandez 1930 project, incorporating traditional luthiery with modern precision. This instrument features seven fan braces and a 650 mm scale, designed to emulate the esteemed qualities of historical models. The soundboard is crafted from bearclaw torrefied spruce harvested in 2018, paired with Indian rosewood for the back and sides, and a flat-cut Spanish cedar neck. Special attention is given to the headstock, which is hand-carved from rosewood and features characters from the classic novel "The Betrothed," adding a unique narrative element to the guitar's design.

This special edition guitar is not only a tribute to classical guitar craftsmanship but also a standout piece of art. Francesco De Gregorio has devoted considerable time to carving the headstock, resulting in a visually striking element that elevates the instrument's aesthetic. The sound of the guitar is profoundly influenced by its very low air resonance of E/F, enriching the bass tones with depth and warmth, while the trebles shine through with crystal clarity, sustained notes, and remarkable evenness across the fretboard. Finished with a handmade mosaic rosette and French polish shellac, and equipped with Alessi tuners for precise adjustments, this guitar is a testament to the dedication and skill involved in creating instruments that are both beautiful to look at and exceptional to play.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
