Karel Dedain - 2024 Arias

Karel Dedain - 2024 Arias

Overview

Karel Dedain, born in 1976, has been dedicated to guitar making since 1998, evolving into a professional luthier by 2006. Based in the charming city of Ghent, Belgium, Karel crafts an exclusive number of 9-10 guitars annually, all pre-ordered and painstakingly crafted to reflect his deep understanding and passion for the art. His building techniques draw heavily from the traditions of the old Spanish masters, enriched with modern innovations. Every instrument is carefully constructed using only the finest hand-selected and workshop-dried woods, resulting in truly unique and exceptional guitars. The beauty, craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail have earned Karel Dedain guitars recognition worldwide, appealing to both amateur enthusiasts and seasoned professionals from Europe, the USA, and Asia. His work is proudly represented online by Siccas Guitars in Karlsruhe.

Beyond crafting high-quality guitars, Karel Dedain shares his expertise as an instructor of classical guitar making at the Centre for Musical Instrument Building (CMB) in Puurs, Belgium, where he himself trained under the guidance of Walter Verreydt from 1998 to 2005. Karel has also dedicated significant time to researching and building replicas of antique classical concert guitars by legendary makers such as Torres, Garcia, Arias, Santos Hernandez, and Esteso. This deep exploration into historical instruments has shaped and honed his skills, enhancing his appreciation for the traditions of guitar making. In late November 2020, Karel and his family demonstrated their commitment to sustainability by planting a private forest of around 1,500 trees, ensuring that each Dedain guitar contributes to preserving nature, with buyers becoming the proud godparents of at least ten trees.

This exceptional instrument stands as one of the finest modern interpretations of a historical guitar, reflecting Karel’s deep expertise in Arias guitars—a passion evidenced by his significant contributions to Alberto Martinez's book on Arias. Karel dedicated extensive time and precision to the intricate decoration of this guitar, showcasing his artistry in the detailed rosette and exquisite binding. As a limited edition model, this guitar marks the fourth in this style crafted by Karel, with each one uniquely distinct from the others. The craftsmanship is unparalleled, as expected from such a master luthier. Acoustically, the guitar exemplifies Karel’s skill, capturing the intimate, warm, and charming sound characteristic of Arias while preserving the authentic feel of historical models. The use of Satinwood adds another layer of rarity and beauty, offering a visual elegance reminiscent of Brazilian rosewood’s density, with its distinctive blonde hue elevating the guitar’s aesthetics. With air resonance between E and F, it delivers a sought-after old-world charm cherished by lovers of historical guitars. This blend of acoustic excellence, historical authenticity, and intricate artistry makes it a truly remarkable instrument.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
