About the luthier

Kolya Panhuyzen has been building classical guitars for more than forty years. In his formative years he worked with the master luthier Edgar Mönch, first in Canada and later in Germany. His instruments are appreciated worldwide for their sonority, balance and easy playability, and many leading artists have chosen them for concerts and recordings. Among those associated with his guitars are Carlo Domeniconi, Zoran Dukic, Hubert Käppel, Dale Kavanagh, Matt Palmer, Raphaëlla Smits and Laura Young. Testimonials highlight refined workmanship, thoughtful construction, remarkable projection and a voice that combines coloristic variety with a singing, sustained quality.

About the guitar

This brand new 2025 concert guitar exemplifies Kolya Panhuyzen’s contemporary approach to a concert instrument that remains faithful to an all wood concept. It is a double top that forgoes carbon fiber and Nomex, combining a spruce soundboard with Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides. The result is a voice with abundant color and a natural, organic response that avoids the artificial feel sometimes associated with composite reinforcements.

Playability stands out immediately. A slightly elevated fingerboard and a neck profile that feels naturally shaped to the hand make this one of those instruments that invite long practice sessions. The guitar responds with ease and offers a dynamic range that is notably wide. It can speak quietly with refinement and it can expand in volume without losing focus, which gives it a traditional musical behavior while retaining the projection and headroom expected from a modern concert guitar.

Tonally it is rich in timbral nuances. Trebles are lyrical and singing, mids are even and coherent, and the basses are clear with depth rather than boom. The overall impression aligns with long standing artist feedback about Panhuyzen guitars, namely a refined and balanced sound that carries well in the hall while remaining easy to control under the fingers.
