Michael Cadiz – 2025 No. 121 "Robert Ruck" Limited Edition

Overview

About the luthier

Michael Cadiz is a Seattle, Washington, native, who moved his workshop to Graz, Austria, in 2016. He built his first guitar at the age of 15. He feels profoundly grateful for Robert Ruck, who invited him to stay for a while in his workshop to share his philosophy and approach to guitar building and from whom he learned a lot. Furthermore, he also received great support from the Seattle builders Rick Davis and Greg Oxrieder. In 2016, he moved his workshop to Graz, Austria, where he has successfully built guitars ever since.

About the guitar

Michael had the great privilege of learning directly from Robert Ruck, and after Robert’s passing, he was given the opportunity to inherit all of Robert’s workshop materials. With this special project, Michael is determined to carry on Robert Ruck’s legacy by building a limited series of 30 guitars, using exclusively the materials Robert left behind.

This guitar is No. 1 of the series, and holds special significance. For the soundboard, Michael used a piece that had already been prepared by Robert himself — including a rosette installed by Robert, which he did not have the chance to complete into a finished instrument.

Sonically, Michael has truly captured the essence of Robert Ruck’s instruments: huge volume, clear voicing, and excellent balance.

The soundboard is reinforced with six parallel fan braces, along with one diagonal brace running from the harmonic bar to the bass side of the waist, and two additional diagonal braces in the lower bout. This bracing configuration provides rich tonal depth, structural integrity, and excellent projection — fully in line with Robert Ruck’s design philosophy.

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
