René Baarslag 2024 Doubletop Classical Guitar Review

More details about the guitar

Born in Heerlen, Holland, in 1948, René Baarslag combined his mechanical engineering background with a deep passion for classical and flamenco guitar, leading him to move to Spain and settle in Granada. There, he apprenticed with Antonio Marín and embarked on a career as an artisan guitar maker. René seamlessly integrated his technical expertise with traditional guitar-making techniques, striving to enhance his instruments’ acoustic power and expressive capacity while maintaining a foundation of balance and warmth. Over his distinguished career, René has also contributed as a teacher, offering guitar-building courses and lectures internationally. His innovations and ideas have not only advanced the craft but also earned acclaim among guitar professionals worldwide.
This brand-new guitar by Rene masterfully blends innovation with the rich tradition of Spanish guitar-making, particularly drawing from the renowned Granada school. While rooted in this classical heritage, the guitar features a modern double-top construction, elevating its performance to meet the demands of contemporary guitarists. The result is an instrument that not only captures the essence of traditional Spanish sound but also offers enhanced responsiveness and playability. The guitar reacts swiftly to right-hand attacks, with a lively and balanced first string, making it a versatile choice for today’s musicians seeking both heritage and modern acoustic refinement.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
