Ana Vidovic – An Exceptional Classical Guitarist

Ana Vidovic is widely recognized as an extraordinary talent whose beautiful tone, precise technique and refined musicality place her among the leading classical guitarists of today.

Her international concert career includes frequent recitals, orchestral performances and festival engagements across Europe in Amsterdam, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, London, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Salzburg, Vienna, Warsaw and Zagreb. She has also toured extensively in Australia, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Korea and Mexico. She has recorded six CDs, and Mel Bay has released two DVDs: Guitar Artistry in Concert and Guitar Virtuoso, featuring works by Bach, Torroba, Paganini, Walton, Villa-Lobos, Barrios Mangoré, Piazzolla, Bensusan and Assad.

In recent seasons she has appeared at King’s Place in London, in Bordeaux and Paris, Carthage, Cuenca, the Vienna Musikverein, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as well as in Aachen, Ansbach, Baden-Baden, Ettlingen, Hong Kong, Uppsala, Istanbul and Tel Aviv. Canadian engagements have included Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener, Toronto and Winnipeg. In the United States she has performed at major venues in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Portland, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Seattle, Washington, D.C. and New York. As a concerto soloist she has appeared with the Asheville Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Hartford Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Knoxville Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, West Virginia Symphony, the Slovenian Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic and many others.

After summer engagements in Liechtenstein and Dubrovnik in 2019, her 2019–20 season featured performances in Baltimore, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Clarksville, Philadelphia, Sedona, as well as concerts in Paris, Aachen and Bad Aibling.

She has won numerous prestigious competitions, including first prizes at the Albert Augustine Competition (Bath), the Fernando Sor Competition (Rome) and the Francisco Tárrega Competition (Benicasim). Additional major awards include the Eurovision Young Artists Competition, the Mauro Giuliani Competition, Printemps de la Guitare and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. In Croatia she has appeared with the national Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and in three documentaries by filmmaker Petar Krelja.

Ana Vidovic was born in Karlovac near Zagreb, Croatia, and began playing guitar at age five. She performed publicly at seven and internationally by age eleven. At thirteen she became the youngest student ever admitted to the National Academy of Music in Zagreb, where she studied with Professor Istvan Romer. Her growing reputation led to an invitation to study with Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory, where she completed her degree.
