Augustin Wiedemann
In 1992, Augustin Wiedemann won the 6th International Guitar Competition of Havana, one of the most renowned guitar competitions of its time. He also received four special prizes, including awards for the best interpretation of Spanish music and for the best performance of Cuban music by a foreign guitarist.
From 2001 to 2004 he taught as an assistant to Prof. Eliot Fisk at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. As a soloist, he has performed in the United States, South Korea, Russia, Cuba, Sweden, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany, appearing at events such as the Tyrolean Festival, the European Weeks in Passau and the Munich Biennale. He has collaborated with orchestras including the Members of the Munich Philharmonic and the South Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic Budweis.
Alongside his solo career, Wiedemann performs chamber music with partners such as Daniel Giglberger (violin). He also appears in the crossover project “Classic meets Soul” with singer and guitarist Kosho, known from the band Söhne Mannheims.
After releasing two albums on Arte Nova/Sony BMG, he published several recordings on wildner records, including Classic meets Soul – Live in Munich, Bach meets Monk and 324. In 2011 his album Symphony, featuring music by Russian composer Boris Yoffe, was also issued by wildner records.
In 2005 Wiedemann joined the Board of Trustees of the Hermann Hauser Guitar Foundation. During the 2006/07 academic year he served as a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In 2008 he received the Pasing Art and Culture Prize in Munich.
Since September 2011 he has held the position of Professor of Guitar at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory in Feldkirch, Austria.
