Elena Càsoli
Elena Càsoli has been active on the international concert scene for many years, presenting a multi-faceted approach to her instrument. Her work ranges from classical repertoire to the experimental language of New Music, and she collaborates closely with composers. She performs on classical, acoustic and electric guitars, archlute, the Chinese pipa, and integrates live electronics and video, taking part in theatrical and multimedia projects.
She appears as a soloist in festivals and concert series including the Melbourne Festival, Hamburg Festspiel, Bern Saitenfestival, MiTo, New Music Prague, Biennale Venezia, Dresdner Musikfestspiel, Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Singapore International Guitar Festival, Liten Gitarrakademi Ingesund and Milano Musica. She has performed with orchestras such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the RAI Orchestra and Concerto Budapest. In duo with Jürgen Ruck she has appeared at the Münchener Biennale, Magnus Haus Berlin, Münster Festival and the Dampfzentrale Bern. Further collaborations include performances with music ensembles such as Divertimento Ensemble Milan, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Sentieri Selvaggi Milan and Camerata Bern, as well as with electronic and computer music studios including Agon (Milan), Akademie der Künste (Berlin) and DIST Genoa.
Her discography includes recordings for RivoAlto (Giuliani), Dabringhaus & Grimm (Henze), BMG-Ricordi, LArecords, Victor Japan, Auditorium, Velut Luna and Stradivarius, including StrongStrangesStrings, Chances Changes and works by Kurtág. She has also taken part in DVD and video productions with Vortice/Venezia (S. Reich, M. Pisati, M. Tadini), Al Gran Sole (D. Scarlatti) and LimenMusic (E. Morricone, S. Bussotti).
In 2009 Al Gran Sole released the documentary film Nelle corde di Elena, dedicated to her life and artistic path. In 2010 she participated in a DVD production devoted to J. S. Bach’s The Art of Fugue.
Since 1994 Càsoli has contributed as a journalist to the Italian musicological journal Il Fronimo. Since 2002 she has been Professor of Guitar and Contemporary Music Interpretation at the University of the Arts Bern.
