Fernando Mazza

Fernando Mazza

Background and Musical Roots

Fernando Mazza is an exceptional luthier whose path began as a trained guitarist. He completed his studies at the Conservatorio Alberto Ginastera in Buenos Aires, yet ultimately discovered his true vocation in guitar making. His experience as a performer continues to shape every instrument he builds.

Craftsmanship Shaped by Performance

His professional demands as a guitarist, combined with extensive training and mastery of construction techniques, allow him to unite two essential perspectives: the expectations of the performer and the solutions the craftsman can create. This dual insight gives Mazza’s work a distinctive artistic and technical depth.

Innovative Approach

Driven by a continual search for refinement, he is not content with building a good guitar. His ambition is to create the best possible instrument. Years of studying traditional methods, construction styles and modern techniques have led him to develop a model that merges the finest aspects of both worlds: the classical Spanish tradition and advanced contemporary guitar making.

Australian System Refined

Mazza builds his guitars using the Australian system inspired by Smallman (Lattice Bracing), significantly reinterpreted and improved. He successfully combines the power, stability and harmonic complexity of this system with the characteristic warmth and expressive essence of the Spanish guitar.

Technical Enhancements

His instruments feature a thin neck reinforced with a bi-directional adjustable bar, enabling extremely low string action and exceptional ease of play. Mazza also integrates a distinctive sound port, an elliptical opening in the top, which increases projection and enhances the listening experience for both the audience and the guitarist.

Artistic Vision

The result is a remarkable instrument distinguished by tone, power, projection and comfort. A guitar by Fernando Mazza represents a significant investment, valued for its sound quality, refined construction, playability and long-term potential. Today, he is regarded as one of the most compelling luthiers on the international scene.

The Craft

Classical guitar construction at concert level demands years of accumulated knowledge: how individual pieces of timber vibrate, how bracing patterns affect tonal balance, how small changes in geometry shift the character of an instrument. A finished concert guitar typically represents several hundred hours of hand work. Every decision — wood selection, arch height, brace dimensions — shapes what a player can do with the finished instrument.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
