Marco Gilioli
Marco Gilioli was born in Milan on 19 November 1987. With a lifelong passion for music, he first studied the piano, an instrument that accompanied him for more than fifteen years, before turning his focus to the classical guitar. Through this deep connection with the guitar, he gradually found his way into the world of luthiery.
He enrolled at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan, where he graduated in 2011 under the guidance of Lorenzo Lippi, Tiziano Rizzi and Gabriele Negri. During his final year of studies, he worked in the workshop of Mirko Migliorini. It was during this period that his strong dedication to the classical guitar fully developed, driven by a fascination with its rich tonal palette and the study of sound.
From that point on, Marco Gilioli devoted himself to an in-depth study of the great historical guitar makers, with particular attention to the Spanish tradition and especially to Antonio de Torres, whose work fundamentally transformed the construction and sound of the classical guitar.
His instruments are built according to the traditional Spanish method, always placing the sound and the needs of the guitarist at the centre of the process. They are characterised by a sweet, warm and balanced tone, with deep basses and clear, singing trebles, combined with excellent playability, handling and projection.
Particular care and precision are dedicated to details and finishing, reflecting his commitment to craftsmanship at the highest level.
The Craft
Classical guitar construction at concert level demands years of accumulated knowledge: how individual pieces of timber vibrate, how bracing patterns affect tonal balance, how small changes in geometry shift the character of an instrument. A finished concert guitar typically represents several hundred hours of hand work. Every decision — wood selection, arch height, brace dimensions — shapes what a player can do with the finished instrument.
