Genta Nakamura - 2022

Overview

Genta Nakamura was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1986. He grew up surrounded by music, especially piano, as his father, Hiroki Kimura, is a pianist in Masaaki Hirao's band. Fascinated by the classical guitar as a student, Genta spent his days playing the guitar until late every night.
All these experiences led him to study at the Department of Woodworks Technology of Tokyo Metropolitan Vocational Skills Development Center, where he graduated in 2005. Soon after, Genta started working at Woodworking Terui Ltd., creating furniture. Not only that, Genta attended the "Shukoukai," organized by Tokio Inoue of Inoue Cutlery Inc., on his days off, where he learned how to sharpen knives and handle traditional tools. At the same time, he started making guitars on his own.

In 2012 Genta started to work at Kohno Guitar Manufacturing, where he learned to make classical guitars. In 2015 he set up his own workshop Ageo-City, Saitama prefecture. Genta builds guitars to create a sound that makes one want to keep playing.

This beautiful brand-new guitar from a young and talented guitar maker has stunned us since the first time we opened the case. The amount of effort spent on making this guitar is just astonishing. Every little detail was done to the highest level of precision; for example, the carved rosette was done entirely by hand. It shows Genta's talent as a fantastic craftsman. The spruce soundboard has four fan bracing systems underneath and striking cocobolo back and sides. Furthermore, it was assembled using the traditional Spanish method. The crystal-clear trebles and lively basses reveal various views and expressions as the guitar is played.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
