Stefan Nitschke - 2021 Santos Hernandez "La Madrona"

Overview

Stefan Nitschke learned the art of guitar building under the guidance of Gerhard Oldiges. Over the last 15 years, he has built a wide variety of instruments with a focus on aesthetics and tonal balance. The influence of the great masters of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Antonio de Torres, Francisco Simplicio, can be found in the subtlety of the sound of his guitars and in the finesse of his skills.

This guitar is simply spectacular. Inspired by Santos Hernandez's instruments from the mid-1930s, this guitar really has it all. At first glance, it seems as if back and sides are crafted from Brazilian rosewood, in fact, it is a great set of Madagascar rosewood with exceptionally beautiful figured grain. The attention to detail that Stefan Nitschke has devoted to this instrument is just impressive. The precision of the mosaic inlays on the top, the black and green herringbone inlays on the back and sides, and the gorgeous handmade tuners by Rodgers replicating the original tuners from that era are just a few examples that make this guitar a true piece of art.

Equally impressive is the guitar's sound, which delights with its openness and rich color palette. The tone production is quick, and the response of the top is clearly reminiscent of the character of Santos Hernandez guitars. As a result, and not least because of the warm and overtone-rich trebles, the sound of this gem harmonizes perfectly with its noble and refined appearance.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
