Stephan Connor - 2025 Doubletop "Floresta"

Overview

About the luthier

Stephan Connor is one of the most sought-after luthiers in the US. His guitars are regularly played in concerts around the world by first class artists such as the Assad brothers, Eliot Fisk, Angel Romero, the Amadeus Guitar Duo, and many more. Stephan has specialized in building high quality concert classical guitars in 1994. He uses the absolute finest materials possible, in order to built instruments with robust projection while maintaining a beautiful, versatile voice. The aesthetic of his guitars is rooted in the Spanish tradition. However, his bracing patterns and other elements that control the sound, have evolved and are distinctly his own.

About the guitar

Crafted in 2025, this exceptional guitar named “Luna” is a testament to Stephen Connor’s luthiery at its highest level. This double-top instrument features a meticulously built three-piece soundboard: the outer sections are made from the highest-grade cedar, while the centerpiece is constructed from ancient cedar that holds a remarkable story.

This central wood, submerged in water for centuries, has gradually absorbed minerals, resulting in a strikingly dark, nearly black hue. Its prolonged immersion has also led to extraordinary density, bordering on petrification—a quality that contributes to a sound of bell-like clarity and depth.

Connor’s attention to detail is evident throughout. The back and sides are finished with lacquer to enhance durability, while the soundboard is treated with French polish, the gold standard in classical guitar finishing for its lightness and responsiveness.

Acoustically, this guitar is a powerhouse. The trebles are loud, smooth, and expressive, supported by a rich overtone structure that gives the sound both complexity and warmth.

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
