London
A scholarship took her to the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Michael Lewin, Stephen Goss and Fabio Zanon. Her final BMus recital was a 45-minute programme of Bach, Ponce and Brouwer – three composers that leave a player nowhere to hide, since each demands a different sound and a different kind of rhythmic discipline.
Alongside her solo work she performs chamber music with the guitarist Alexandra Paceana.
Romania and the online stage
At home she has played at the George Enescu Festival in Festival Square, Bucharest, and for the Rotary Club Triumph as a bursary recipient. She has also given online concerts for the Texas Guitar Society as part of its International Guest Artist series and for the Instituto Romeno in Venice.
The online concert is often treated as a lesser format. It is not: playing to a camera with no audience response is harder than playing to a hall, and the recording stays available long after the evening is over.
The second track
Alina also works in social media creation and management, with the explicit aim of bringing more attention to the classical guitar. She is a ToneBase Artist and has worked with D’Addario, Guitarlift and Soundbrenner.
That combination is still rare in this field. Most classical guitarists treat the instrument and its presentation as separate problems, and hand the second one to someone else. Doing both yourself means the playing and the way it reaches people are shaped by the same judgement.
