Portrait of classical guitarist Ana Gorjanc

Ana Gorjanc: A Slovenian Guitarist Between the Solo Stage and the Duo AdArt

A Slovenian guitarist with a wide reach

Ana Gorjanc is a Slovenian classical guitarist known for her expressive playing and for the range of what she does with the instrument. She performs as a soloist, plays in an award-winning duo, teaches at a music school in Ljubljana and appears as a lecturer at guitar festivals. Few players of her generation move that easily between all four.

Vigo, Salzburg, Ljubljana

Her training took her across Europe. She studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo with Margarita Escarpa, one of the most influential teachers of the Spanish school, and at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Laura Young. She is currently finishing her degree in instrumental pedagogy at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana with Tomaž Rajterič. That last detail says something about her: she went back home to study how to teach, rather than treating pedagogy as an afterthought to a performing career.

Competitions

Her competition record runs across much of Europe. She has taken prizes at the Ida Presti International Guitar Competition and at the Slovenian national competition, and at competitions in Spain, Portugal, Montenegro, Italy, Croatia and Germany.

The duo AdArt

Alongside her solo playing she is one half of AdArt, the award-winning duo she formed with the guitarist Staš Čakš. Duo playing of this kind asks for something different from solo work, a constant listening and adjusting between two instruments that share the same register, and it is a discipline she has stayed with rather than treating as a side project.

Festivals and teaching

She has appeared at festivals and concert series including Festival Ljubljana, Postojna Guitar Week, the José Tomás Guitar Festival and Youngmasters Samobor. She teaches guitar at the Arsem music school in Ljubljana and works as a lecturer at guitar festivals.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
