Brigitte Zaczek was born in Vienna and has remained closely connected to her hometown. After completing her guitar studies at the Viennese Academy of Music with her aunt, Prof. Luise Walker, she continued her education with Andrés Segovia and Alirio Díaz in Spain, Italy, and Venezuela. Her concert debut in 1963 at the Wiener Konzerthaus was followed by prizes at international competitions in Paris (Radio France 1964) and Caracas (Alirio Díaz 1966), as well as solo and chamber music recordings with the American Musical Heritage Society, numerous radio and television productions, and concert engagements throughout Europe, North and Latin America, and South Africa.
Since 1972, Brigitte Zaczek has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she became a full professor in 1987. For many years she has focused on the repertoire and performance techniques of historical plucked instruments. After an intensive study of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century lute music (1986 concert diploma in renaissance lute, baroque lute, and theorbo at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe under Jürgen Hübscher), she has devoted herself primarily to the guitar music of the nineteenth century.
