Brigitte Zaczek
Brigitte Zaczek was born in Vienna and has remained true to her hometown to this day. After completing her study of guitar at the Viennese Academy of Music with her aunt Prof. Luise Walker, she continued her education with Andrés Segovia and Alirio Díaz in Spain, Italy, and Venezuela. Her concert debut in 1963 at the Wiener Konzerthaus was followed by prizes at international competitions in Paris (Radio France 1964) and Caracas (Alirio Díaz 1966), solo and chamber music recordings with the American Musical Heritage Society, radio and television recordings, and concerts Europe, North- and Latin America and South Africa. Since 1972, Brigitte Zaczek has been – and still is – teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She was promoted to full professor in 1987. For several years, her primary interest has been in the repertoire and playing techniques of historical plucked instruments. Following an intensive study of the lute music of the seventeenth and eighteenth century (1986 concert diploma renaissance-lute, baroque-lute, and theorbo, Musikhochschule Karlsruhe, Germany with Jürgen Hübscher) she has dealt primarily with the guitar music of the 19th century lately.
