Tomasz Zawierucha: Acclaimed Classical Guitarist and Educator

Tomasz Zawierucha is an internationally acclaimed classical guitarist celebrated for his exceptional technique, refined tone, and expressive depth. His artistry has taken him to major concert stages around the world, where his performances are praised for their clarity, precision, and poetic interpretation.

Early Training and Musical Foundations

Tomasz studied under two of the most influential guitar pedagogues of our time — Thomas Müller-Pering and Monika Rost. Even as a student, he distinguished himself by winning first prizes at several prestigious international competitions, including the Ville d’Antony Competition in Paris, the Dundee International Guitar Competition in Scotland, and the Tokyo International Guitar Contest.

Career Highlights and International Recognition

After his acclaimed recital at Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall, Jun Sugawara of Gendai Guitar Magazine described him as “undoubtedly one of the most interesting guitarists of his generation.” His artistry has led to invitations to perform at major festivals such as the Stuttgart International Classical Guitar Festival, Glasgow’s Big Guitar Weekend, the Iserlohn Guitar Festival, and the Rencontres de la Guitare in Paris. In addition to his solo career, Tomasz regularly gives masterclasses and serves as a jury member at international competitions.

Chamber Music and Collaborations

Alongside his solo performances, Tomasz maintains an active chamber music career. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as John Dearman, Ricardo Gallén, and Olaf Van Gonnissen, exploring the guitar’s role within diverse ensemble settings. His sensitive musical approach and stylistic versatility have made him a valued partner among leading performers.

Recordings and Critical Reception

Tomasz Zawierucha’s discography reflects both his intellectual curiosity and dedication to artistic excellence. His recordings — including Zawierucha plays Bach (Classic Clips, Germany), The Twilight Zone (DGF, UK), and Un Tiempo fue Itálica famosa (GG, Japan) — have been widely praised by international critics in Soundboard, Classical Guitar Magazine, GuitarArt, The Times, and The Record Geijutsu. He has also recorded for major broadcasters such as MDR, WDR, RT, PR2, and NHK, bringing his artistry to audiences across Europe and Asia.

Teaching and Artistic Mentorship

Beyond the concert stage, Tomasz is deeply committed to education. He has taught at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar and the Vorarlberg State Conservatoire in Austria. He currently serves as Professor of Guitar at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, and as a Visiting Artist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. Through his teaching, Tomasz continues to inspire a new generation of guitarists with his knowledge, artistry, and dedication to the craft.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
