About 'Recuérdame' from Coco
'Remember Me' was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the songwriting duo who had previously created 'Let It Go' for Frozen. The song is the emotional heart of Coco (2017), Pixar's celebrated film about music, family and remembrance set in Mexico during the Día de los Muertos. In 2018 it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
What makes the piece so rewarding on the classical guitar is its double nature. In the film it appears both as a brash mariachi showpiece and as a fragile lullaby sung by a father to his daughter. A solo guitar arrangement can hold both characters at once: the melody sings in the treble while the accompaniment keeps the gentle rocking motion of a lullaby.
